Top Most Popular Korean Variety Shows Pt. 1

Hey my beautiful Pandas (I think I’ll be calling you guys this now hehe >.<), it’s Vanessa.

I’m back again with another blog and this time, it’s about the very fundamentals of entertainment, variety shows! America has its own fair share of good variety, ranging from Saturday Night Live to The Bachelor. However, today I would be introducing to you guys a few popular Korean variety shows that you should consider watching. 1. Running Man

Running man first aired on July 10th, 2010 on SBS’s Good Sunday lineup and is currently the longest running program! It airs every Sunday at 4:50 pm KST. The show stars Yoo Jae Suk as the main MC and is based around the members (sometimes with invited guests) completing missions and playing games. This show has become so popular by Hallyu fans that it was fansubbed to suit international audiences in many languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Malay, Indonesian, Burmese, Arabic, Russian, and Turkish. They also have a sister show in China that aired on October 10th, 2014 with the name Hurry Up, Brother.

2. Sugar Man

Sugar Man aired on August 19th, 2015 and stars Yoo Jae Suk, Yoo Hee Yeol, Kim Eana, and Sandara Park. This original broadcast began regular airing on October 20th, 2015 and airs on Tuesdays at 10:50 pm KST. The program is centered around two teams led by the two main MCs and the objective is to bring back a Sugar Man, defined as a singer who has since disappeared from the public eye. Afterward, the mission is for the teams to rearrange an old song to be appealing to the current society and perform on stage.

3. We Got Married

We Got Married first aired in 2008 and is regularly airing on Saturday at 5:00 pm KST. The drama centers around pairing together celebrities in Korea, as per chosen by fans, and puts them through a fake marriage. The purpose is to mainly show chemistry in the entertainment industry and to appeal to the general audience. Each week, the couple is assigned a mission to complete and is then interviewed about their thoughts and feelings.

4. Happy Together

Happy Together first aired on November 8th, 2001 on KBS. Currently, Happy Together is dubbed first place of the most popular shows on Korea’s free-to-air networks and airs regularly every Thursday at 11:05 pm KST. The show stars Yoo Jae Suk, Park Myung Su, Jun Hyun Moo, Jo Se Ho, and Uhm Hyun Kyung.

5. Please Take Care of My Refrigerator

This show with its peculiar long name airs every Monday at 9:30 KST and started on November 17th, 2014. This is mainly a cooking-variety program and stars many famous chefs along with casting celebrity guests to brighten up the atmosphere.
